Gathering Audience Feedback

What's the point of doing a survey?

  • To find out what your audience wants to see and the type of music they like .
  • To help you make production decisions that will attract your target audience.
  • To show you have developed a music video that is relevant to your target audience.
  • To show that you have an understanding of the importance of audience in music production.
Qualitative Research
  • This method of research questioning aims to discover the opinion and preferences of the target group.
  • The questions in this type of research will be open or probing questions.
Quantitative Research
  • This method of research questioning enables the gathering figures or data.
  • You will use this type of questioning when you want to record statistics on audience preferences.
  • Closed questions are used in quantitative research.
We are using both these research methods in order to gain a wider understanding of our target audience and how to attract them.

We have undertaken research into our target audience throughout all stages of the planning and production. This included the following:
1) Pre-production surveys:
  • Before we began we researched into different genres and target audiences.
  • Interviewed our potential target audience regarding our initial ideas.
  • Got feedback from our target audience via our animatic and how we could improve this.
  • Received feedback on our main singer/ artist and whether their rehearsals were effective.
  • Obtained feedback on our first draft.
  • Feedback on our second draft.
  • Feedback on our finished music video.
2) Post-production surveys

Methods of carrying out a survey
  • Focus groups
  • Random surveys which include survey monkey sent out to other schools.
